REASON FOR LOSS:

Took-off from R.A.F. Biggin Hill p.m. for a combat patrol. Shot down in combat with Bf109 over Hawkinge at 4.40 p.m. Aircraft crashed and burned out in Bartholomews Wood, Postling Wents, near Hawkinge, Kent. Aircraft a write-off.

A few weeks earlier on Monday the 23
rd of September, Flying Officer Pattinson crashed while attempting a forced landing near West Malling following combat with Bf109s over Gravesend. Pattinson was severely wounded in the thigh and admitted to Preston Hall Hospital Maidstone.
