REASON FOR LOSS:

 Whitley Z6557 took-off from R.A.F. Leeming, Yorkshire at 20.44 hrs. This aircraft was last heard of returning from the raid on Bremen at around 22.40 hrs. plotted near the Dutch coast, when contact was lost and the aircraft was thought to have crashed into the sea. All the crew member bodies were recovered. Thanks to investigations undertaken by Hermann Adams who has recorded many crash sites, it is now known that this aircraft crashed at Papenburg Germany, close to the Dutch/German border.

Burial details:

All crew members buried at the Sage War cemetery, which is 28 kilometres north of Bremen.
