The aircraft had been involved in a mid-air collision with a Short Stirling Mk. III EH989 WP-P of No.90 Squadron that was returning from an operation to Amiens France, The Stirling crashing at Astwell Park, Northamptonshire. All 7 crew on board were killed along with the 8 crewmen on Wellington LN660.

Vickers Wellington Mk. X LN660 KJ-O from No.11 O.T.U. took-off RAF Wescott at 2005 hrs for a night cross-country. The aircraft crashed at 2223 hrs just to the East of Quainton Railway Station, 6 miles North West from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
