Took-off from R.A.F. Lympne on a cross-channel sweep over the Cherbourg Peninsula, hit by Flak from Martinvaast, aircraft was last seen going down in flames from 500 feet.

James was born on the 5th January 1919, Plunkett, Saskatoon Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada. The son of Frederick and Jessie Alwilda (nee Mosher) Wiley; of Viscount, Saskatchewan; husband of Nadine Evaline Wiley, of Arden, Ontario.
