REASON FOR LOSS:
Took-off at 1115 hrs from R.A.F. Bottesford for a cross-country sortie, but soon after setting course, the port outer faild. Flt/Sgt. Paddison managed to feather the propeller but was unable to trim out the tendency for the Lancaster to turn to the left. Thus, at around 1150 hrs he made an emergency landing at Fiskerton, whereupon the aircraft promptly swung off the runway and slid to a stop with its wheels folded, braking up and catching fire. Sgt. Mitchell and Sgt. D’arcy were quite badly hurt and both required treatment at R.A.F. Hospital Rauceby.
