Heart, W, William “Bill”, United Kingdom, RAF, 582 Squadron, Air Gunner, Rear, Sergeant
Bill Heart was one of the casualties that war history often overlooks, he was found by those who first reached the crash site screaming out the names of his friends, oblivious to injuries of his own and franticly blowing his survival whistle as he stumbled through the burning fields where the remains on his Lancaster aircraft PB475 had fallen, sadly there would be no reply. To be separated from them was worse than death itself as like for most crews they had pledged that they would all go down together, fate had chosen otherwise and he was alone.
